Frustration of the Political Left in the Indian context

The Left in India has long outlived their sell by date. They have been able to outlive the fall of the Berlin wall, the Soviet Union and even the collapse of Yugoslavia.

After the fall of the Soviet bastion in India (West Bengal) and the demise or change in allegiance of many Left oriented intellectuals, little remains on the ground. The last breath was drawn when the Maoist movement was extinguished in the second decade of the 21st century. It does not mean the Left is extinct. There are still a sufficient number of people - both young and old who remain enamored (or infected) with Communism to this day. Indeed, non Communist parties also often toe a very avowedly socialist line when it comes to public policy.

With the death of a viable political leadership, the Communists survive and try to find like minded voices in the deeps and crannies of society. The Zombified existence remains and continues to create perverted art, articles and a narrative. Though significantly less effective, it does have an impact on young minds.

This is made worse by the fact that the Left still occupies the majority of the arts and general humanities departments in educational institutions, effectively breeding future malcontents to swell the ranks of their flock. A proportion of them end up becoming teachers and professors and continue this vicious cycle.

What happens to the vast remainder?

Foot soldiers of a never coming Revolution!

Life and its lows - September 17

Life seems to have lost its meaning. I am moving from one day to the next. Office work is a pain. Getting up is a pain. Eating is pain. Everything is, generally. The mornings are usually the worst. The dreadful feelings last up to almost 12:30 to 1 PM in the afternoon. Then things get a bit better.  I am already on medication. But recovery has been slow. This is how it happens. I am not surprised. But it is heartbreaking, nonetheless. I look at my mother, she has so many dreams about me. Then I look at myself, contemplating the worst thoughts you can imagine. It hurts. Once the afternoon begins, things get a bit better. I feel like getting around a bit. And I do. I still don't feel like talking much. But walking from one room to another also feels like an accomplishment.  There are many like me out there. Even those who don't know or don't understand what this is. If you have been feeling this way for days or weeks, this is not just you are feeling a bit low. You are depre

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (henceforth named as Mr. Shankar) is not new to controversy. Not even with topics like homosexuality. What the event was At an event in the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Ravi Shankar gave a talk on the occasion of the Nehru Memorial lecture on 13 th November, 2017. One among the audience lamented that he was ill-treated since he was known to be a homosexual. Then Mr. Shankar stated that he needed to accept himself as he was and love knew no boundaries. Let’s see and hear what he said… Let’s quote Mr. Shankar verbatim as reported by some of the newspapers . ‘ You treat yourself better, doesn’t matter how others treat you. You don’t think you are sick or something’s wrong with you. If you stand up, nobody can insult you… But if you feel weak and meek, and if you feel bad about yourself, nobody can make you feel better.’ Indian Express reported this in addition as well. Let me quote it directly here as well. ‘ This is your tendency now. Just ack
